My Pilgrimage to Senator Barack Obama’s Acceptance Speech
By Sista Monica
I started out with an airplane ticket, rental car, and the closest, most hard-to-find hotel room 50 miles away. I end up at the Hampton Inn in Loveland, Colorado on Wednesday, August 27, 2008. I had no ticket in hand for the acceptance speech by Senator Barack Obama as the Democratic Nominee for the President of the United States. This historic event was also on the 45th anniversary of the great “I Have a Dream” speech by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I had to be there. Be there for my late mother and father Ramogene and Garfield Parker, for Cousin Rubye Clay, my brother Barry and my sister Charlotte. I had to be there for every one that remembered Dr. King’s life, his marching and speaking, his personal sacrifice. We could possibly realize the dream, the hope, the change, and the inspiration that Barack Obama offered the rest of the United States and the world.
